The Youth Network connects youth to positions of power within Made in Durham and in their communities. Around 30 youth, ages 14-24, serve each year, working on action projects aimed at identifying and addressing racial inequities in their schools and communities. With each cohort, the network elects members to serve on Made in Durham’s board of directors, advisory team, task forces, and other working coalitions.
The Youth Network provides important oversight to Made in Durham’s work. Key decisions are only made after receiving a majority vote from youth members.
Made in Durham provides youth with a stipend, free meals, and solutions to transportation barriers, allowing students of all financial background the opportunity to participate.
Youth must be nominated to join the network. Typically teachers, family members, coworkers, or supervisors will nominate youth but anyone can make a nomination, as long as they are able to speak to the nominee’s interest and dedication to social justice and community organizing.
We are not currently taking nominations. Stay tuned for the next cohort!
