Timeline

2011

MDC convenes Panel on Disconnected Youth, a diverse group Durham’s business academic, criminal justice and community and economic development leaders, to examine how the community can better prepare Durham’s youth for successful adulthood and good jobs in the local labor market.

2012

MDC publishes Made in Durham: Building an Education-to-Career System, based on interviews with more than 90 practitioners and experts. It calls for business, government, educators, nonprofits, youth and young adults to collaborate and build an effective education-to-career system.

2013

Made in Durham Task Force and Policy Working Group convene to develop an agenda and action plan for creating Durham’s education-to-career system.

2014

Made in Durham Task Force publishes Made in Durham: Phase 1 Action Plan, outlining steps to create Durham’s education-to-career system.

2015

Made in Durham Task Force creates a nonprofit anchor organization, Board of Directors, Advisory Team and Action Teams to create and sustain Durham’s education-to-career system.

Made in Durham is a community partnership of educators, business, government, youth-serving nonprofits and young people mobilized around a shared vision that all of Durham’s youth will complete high school and a post-secondary credential and begin a rewarding career by the age of 25.
