Deanna Knighton

Deanna Knighton serves as career development specialist, helping students served by Made in Durham’s Durham Futures dropout recovery initiative develop career plans and career-readiness skills.

Knighton works with students and staff at Durham Futures partner sites to develop career development activities and coordinate work-based learning experiences.

She brings years of experience advising and teaching a diverse population of students and developing curricula. She previously served as a career specialist in Career and Employment Resources at Wake Technical Community College and as adjunct instructor in the college’s accounting department. Prior to that, she was a career services graduate assistant at William Peace University and graduate student intern at N.C. State University.

She is 2018-2019 president-elect and conference chair of the N.C. Career Development Association, a division of the N.C. Counseling Association comprising professionals in the field of career counseling and development. She will become president in 2019-2020 and serve as past president during 2020-2021.

Knighton holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from N.C. State.
