Anderson and Basnight join made in Durham staff

Made in Durham has hired two staff people to support the work of the partnership creating an education-to-career system for Durham youth.

Ben Anderson has been named data strategist. He will work with partners to develop, analyze and interpret data and information that guides decision-making across the partnership.

Sherrod Basnight has been named career pathways specialist. He will support collaboration among education partners who are creating regional career pathways.

Anderson and Basnight join five other staff members facilitating the work of the Made in Durham partnership.

The five existing staff are:

  • Meredythe Holmes, executive director.
  • Joshua Mbanusi, youth engagement strategist.
  • Britney McCoy, partnership relations strategist.
  • Lydia Newman, youth transitions strategist.
  • Laura Wendell, business engagement strategist.

Anderson brings a range of skills and knowledge for translating data into actionable insights that partners can use to develop and evaluate their strategies for greater impact. He has served as business development manager for a startup online recreational scheduling software company, director of operations and sales manager for an international biomedical firm, financial analyst for an industry-leading construction firm and researcher for two academic institutions.

He recently completed a master’s degree in specialized economic analysis of public policy at Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, where he mastered cutting-edge research methods and studied economics related to social and public policy and education.

He also holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Basnight previously served as associate director at Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and chair of the AHEC Health Careers and Workforce Diversity Council.

He brings unique experiences and insights from his work as a forensic science high school teacher for Durham Public Schools, adjunct instructor of developmentally disabled adults for Durham Technical Community College and deputy sheriff and his service in the U.S. Air Force.

Basnight holds a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management and a master’s degree in public administration from Bellevue University in Nebraska. He is currently pursuing a doctorate of education at Walden University.
