A Bittersweet Goodbye for Deanna Knighton

December 5, 2019

Our wonderful Career Development Strategist, Deanna Knighton, will be completing her time with us this month and starting a new career as the Assistant Director of Career Readiness in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. Deanna has brought her expertise in career advising and teaching diverse populations to our team for over 2 years. She’s helped countless youth prepare resumes, practice interviewing, and hone other employable skills to help them secure internships and jobs in their communities. We are sad to see her go but happy and proud of her as she starts this new chapter in her career!

“I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many of the fabulous people who work to make and keep Durham great, especially when I could do so through Made in Durham partnerships. It has been particularly good to work with the Durham Futures team. Rotcelis, Dominique and our honorary team member, Arvetra, are all fantastic as is the rest of the MID staff! The students were wonderful too! Many of them have overcome so many barriers in life to shine and are working hard to move onward and upward, and it was a joy to work with them! The Durham YouthWork Internship Program was a big highlight in my work with MID too.” – Deanna Knighton

What her staff members have to say:

“I appreciate the intentionality Deanna puts into everything and the cultural awareness she brings into every space. Her intentionality and awareness made her a fantastic thought partner in crafting workshops to identify cultural norms. I’ll truly miss having her at the table.” – Dan McKinney, Youth Engagement Strategist

“In a world where chaos often reigns, Deanna is our beacon of calm and focused light to just get the work done for our Durham youth.” – Casey Steinbacher, Executive Director

“What I’ve enjoyed most about working with Deanna is how she keeps things running with our partners and her quick follow up with teammates! She’s very patient in her responses. She has good character and is fun to work with.” – Arvetra Jones, Transition Support
